There’s nowhere like the Copper Country for viewing the changing autumn leaves. Many people jump in their cars and drive north to see the vibrant reds, oranges, and golds of the fall leaves. But have you ever viewed them from above?
Mount Bohemia Chairlift Rides

Saturday, the 5th, probably wasn’t the best day to plan our Mt. Bohemia trip. However, since both my sister’s and my birthdays were coming up, we planned this as our early joint birthday gift.
There was a wind advisory for Sunday, the 6th, our first planned date. But Saturday’s forecast called for temperatures in the sixties and clear skies, so we exchanged our tickets.
Great! We now had tickets for chairlift rides, steak shish-kabobs, and a drink for Saturday. Apparently, there was still a chance for windy conditions on Saturday, and…well, we got wind!
The ride up was fun—no real wind at first. However, the colors weren’t that vibrant yet. It was the ride down that was going to make the ride worth our while. We couldn’t wait for the last leg of the ride!
As we got near the top, we’d already been told that our steak shish-kabob tickets would be refunded. There was a red flag warning out in the whole area, so using the smoker was out of the question. No big deal; we made alternate dinner plans.
Then, however, when we got to the top, the wind was really starting to pick up. I had a bad feeling… Sure enough, we were told that the chairlifts were going to be closed for the day. We had two options: hike down the mountain or wait for a truck to pick us up.
Mike was ready to hike down, but my sister and I weren’t quite dressed for it. We took the truck down.
While Arnie, Mike, and I jumped in the very back, Becky commandeered the passenger seat next to the driver! She’s a survivor—what can I say?
I know. I know. It sounds like we didn’t have a good time. However, we really did. We didn’t hit the color peak—good news for those still planning their chairlift ride—but the views were nevertheless spectacular! Yes, it was a gorgeous view, and we still had fun.
In fact, the three of us who rode in the back of the truck (not Becky) got to meet a sweet young couple from the Marquette area who had just gotten engaged at the top of the mountain. So, if you’re planning some kind of life-enhancing event, why not plan it where the autumn colors provide an opulent background?
